Swootman Plough

The Swootman Plough was originally known as The Champion Iron Plough. These were manufactured in Diss by Elijah Youngs & Co and became world famous.

Peggy Wheeler donated the Swootman Plough to Diss Museum. Her father was Reginald Young (MD of the family’s foundry), her grandfather was Elijah Youngs. Her husband Geroge T Wheeler restored the Swootman plough which is now on display in The Wildlife Garden beside Diss Mere.

Originally known as The Champion Iron Plough, it was later better known as The Swootman. These were manufactured in Diss by Elijah Youngs & Co and became world famous.

The restored plough and information boards about the history of Elijah Youngs & Co can now be viewed in the Heritage Wildlife Gardens.
