Can you solve the mystery?
This unknown item donated to Diss Museum was found in the loft of Diss secondary school by the caretaker, Mr Fulcher.
Our mystery object was used at Aldrich Brush Factory which opened in 1899 and was based in Shelfanger Road. The factory closed in 1988 and the site was cleared for housing.
Our mystery item is a hinged object made of hardened steel. It has two wooden handles that swivel. The metal is pierced with holes, has wooden rollers and the hinge that allows it to open out. The two right angle flat metal rods give the impression that perhaps it was originally bolted to a work bench?
The dimensions are: Length 24cm, Width 18.5cm, Height 10.5cm
We would like your help. Help us solve the mystery!
